Caitlyn Jenner, who has tried to establish herself as a transgender icon, came in for some heat this week after gushing about her love for the Aerosmith song Dude Looks Like A Lady.

The reality star and former Olympian posted a photo of herself with the band’s lead singer Steven Tyler to Instagram Tuesday with the caption: ‘@iamstevent and I are working on our duet for Dude Looks Like a Lady. One of my favorite songs!’ However, members of the trans community immediately took issue with the 67-year-old with one user commenting: ‘You really think this caption is appropriate? It’s really sad you’re a poor role model for the LGBT community. You just don’t get it.’
Another poster wrote: ‘This song has been used as a humilation towards us for years. How could you not know this. Are you even a real transwoman or is this just a continuation of a PR stunt to make transwomen further stigmatised and ridiculed.’
‘More importantly, don’t call a trans woman a “dude”,’ another commented. ‘This is so misjudged, let’s hope this ends the careers of you both so we never need to be inflicted with either of you fools again.’
‘Its really sick that you are the name of the trans community. You dont (sic) even know what its like,’ added another Instagram follower.
Hours later, Caitlyn attempted some damage limitation during an appearance on ABC’s Kimmy Kimmel Live. She said she met Tyler at a fundraising gala in Minneapolis where she went backstage to say hi to the rock star. She said she told him how she used to play the song Dude Looks Like A Lady as she drove around at night in her car in women’s clothing. ‘That became my theme song, driving around in my little car with my little CD in there, whipping up the tunes and stuff and I said I just want you to know that made me feel good,’ the father of Kendall and Kylie Jenner explained.
Jenner also confronted late night host Kimmel over some jokes he may have cracked about her when she was transitioning from Bruce to Caitlyn. Rumors were rife due to Bruce’s changing appearance on the reality show Keeping Up With The Kardashians and the trouble sin his marriage to momager Kris Jenner.
‘I slowly went through, told all my children, because it had just hammered all over the media for the longest time. In fact, guys like you, making some jokes…’ she told Kimmel.
He retorted: ‘We didn’t know what was going on! Sorry about that, by the way!’
‘I accept your apology!’ Caitlyn said.
Jenner finally went public with plans to transition genders in a landmark interview with Diane Sawyer that aired on ABC in April 2015.
